Google released the Pixel 2 and 2XL smartphone devices around the middle of October 2017. Google extended its warranty by a year and released software updates to address those problems. If you own a Google Pixel 2 or 2 XL, here are 20 Pixel 2 tricks that you should know-
1. You can activate developer settings
You can activate developer settings by going to Settings > System > About phone. Then when you scroll down to the bottom and tap on the Build number, you will see a number of developer options.
2. You can adjust double tap to wake your phone
There is a way to turn the double tap to wake feature on or off. You can do this by going to Settings > Display > Advanced > Double-tap to check the phone.
3. You can adjust the keyboard height
With your Google Pixel 2 and 2 XL, you can adjust the keyboard height settings. To do this, simply go to Settings > System > Languages, input & gestures > Virtual keyboard > Manage keyboards > Google Keyboard > Keyboard Height. Adjust the slider until the keyboard is at a height that you like.
4. Battery saver mode
Need to preserve some of your battery? There is a built-in battery saver mode to help you preserve battery life in case you will not have access to a charger for a while. You can utilize this feature by going to Settings > Battery > Battery Saver.
5. Clear up storage space
Google has made it easy to free up storage space with Android Oreo. You can do this by going to Settings > Storage and tapping on the button that says “Free Up Space.”
The device will present a list of items it suggests you to remove. This could include apps that you do not use regularly and downloads that you may no longer need. The apps will be displayed by size and the dates you last used each one.
6. Creating shortcut icons
A number of apps have shortcuts that you can add to the Home screen, which will take your straight to that function. To add shortcuts, touch and hold down the app and lift your finger. If that app has shortcuts, then you will see a list of the ones available. Then touch and hold the shortcut and slide it to where you want it.
7. You can delete backed up photos
One of the optimal features built into Android Oreo is the ability to automatically clear up space on your phone by removing photos and videos that are already backed up. You can set this up by going to Settings > Storage > Smart Storage. And then you can set the time frame for removing photos and videos automatically after 30, 60 or 90 days.
8. You can find your device using Google Search
Google has made it easy to search for your Android device by simply doing a search. As long as you are logged into Google on your Android device, you can search for “Find My Device” on Google.com in your web browser and the location where your device was located most recently will be displayed. You can also remotely erase the device if it got stolen or have it ring in case you misplaced it.
9. Flip camera
Under Settings > System > Languages, input & gestures, there is a feature called Flip camera. This allows you to switch in and out of selfie mode by double twisting your device while using the Camera app.
10. Split screen
With Android Oreo, you can set up a split screen. This can be activated by pushing down and holding the recent apps button. Then select the second app and configure the size and placement.
For this to work, the app would have to support split-screen. To exit the split screen mode, you simply have to press and hold the recent apps button.
11. You can set up gestures for opening the camera
You can set up a gesture shortcut for opening the camera. For example, you can set up your phone so that a double press of the power or standby button can open the camera. This setting can be found in Settings > System > Languages & input > Gestures. And then turn on Jump to the camera.
12. IP67 rating
The Pixel 2 and 2 XL are both rated IP67. This means it is dustproof and is able to withstand being submerged in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. So if you want to use your Pixel 2 and 2 XL in the shower and shallow areas of a pool, it should be safe.
13. You can lock the exposure
If you want to lock the exposure while you are taking a photo or video, then you can do that by pushing down on the screen while the camera app is open. Then you will notice that it says AE/FE locked. To set up this feature while in video mode, tap to focus and then tap on the lock icon at the top of the exposure slider.
14. You can modify the icon and screen size
There is a way to adjust the size of the icons and the screen size on the Pixel 2 and 2 XL. You can set this up by going to Settings > Display > Advanced. From there, select the Display size option and move the slider until the icons are the size of your liking.
15. Notification dots
This feature places dots on apps that have a notification or other content to show you. Once this feature is activated, then you can long press on an app that has a dot to see the notifications. To turn this feature on and off, you can find it under Settings > Apps & notifications > Notifications.
16. Pinning screens
This feature prevents people from being able to scroll back and forth between other pages of your home screen. You can set this up by going to Settings > Security & location > Screen pinning.
17. You can recognize songs automatically
On the Pixel 2 and 2 XL, you can set up the devices so that it automatically listens to songs that are playing in the background and it displays details about it on your lock screen. You can set this up by going to Settings > Sounds > Advanced > Now Playing.
18. You can set time controls for night light
The Night Light feature built into Android reduces the brightness of your display at night to prevent strain on the eyes. You can schedule the timing of the Night Light feature by going to Settings > Display > Night Light. This setting area also permits you to adjust the hue of the Night Light.
19. Scheduling do not disturb
When you swipe down the Quick Settings menu and press and hold down the Do Not Disturb button, you will be able to customize the time that you want the feature to be turned on automatically.
20. See a new wallpaper daily
The Pixel 2 and 2 XL has a number of wallpapers already included, but you can set it up so that it shows you a different one every day. This feature essentially rotates between a collection of wallpapers every day. You can set this up by long pressing the home screen, tapping Wallpapers, selecting a collection and then tapping on the Daily wallpaper.
