Leading telecom operator Airtel has hit the headlines this time with the news of its 4G VoLTE services being expanded in the state of Karnataka.
The company also regarded in a statement that, there would be no additional data charges for VoLTE and calls would be billed as per existing plan or packs benefits, across any call on mobile or landline network using Airtel VoLTE.
To this, C Surendran, chief executive officer, Karnataka, Bharti Airtel, regarded on the launch that, “”We are delighted to roll out VoLTE services in Karnataka. It complements our efforts in delivering the fastest mobile broadband services in the state. Our customers will enjoy the flexibility of making calls and using ultra high speed 4G mobile data services at the same time. As the consumers demand more of their smart devices, we believe that such technological advancements ensure they get the best out of their smartphones”.
So, in order to acquire the Airtel VoLTE services, users need to acquire:
- Check if your smartphone is compatible with airtel.in/volte.
- Update your smartphone’s operating software to the latest version that supports VoLTE.
- Make sure the smartphone has an Airtel 4G USIM. Customers can do this by going to the nearest Airtel store.
- Enable VoLTE by following instructions on airtel.in/volte.
Now, for those customers who use two SIM, they would have to make sure that the Airtel 4G USIM has been inserted in the sim slot 1 and network mode has been selected as “4G/3G/2G (Auto)”.
Airtel also recently rolled out its VoLTE services in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana region. Besides this, Airtel VoLTE is also available in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh.
Recently, Gopal Vittal, MD, and CEO, India and South Asia, Bharti Airtel, regarded during earnings that the company is likely to shut down 3G service in next 3-4 years and re-farm the spectrum linked with it for 4G services. He said that the company is investing in 4G technology for building in more data capacity in the network.
