Finally, the news is here. The current year witnessed the announcement by AMD, about the release of its high-end, multi-core Threadripper processors. So this time, the latest announcement by AMD states about the things to be expected from the new chips, coupled with the pricing and release information.
As per plans, Threadripper will support the launch of two chips, namely the $799 Ryzen Threadripper 1920X, comprising 12 cores/ 24 threads and a 3.5GHz base speed, rising up to 4.0GHz and the top-tier $999 Ryzen Thereadripper 1950X, which with its previously promised 16 cores/32 threads and with the same base speed as mentioned above. Also, just like AMD’s other Ryzen processors, both these Threadripper models are kept unlocked for the users to overclock as they see fit.
These Threadripper chips will be equipped with some new motherboards that will provide the perfect assistance to the high-end processors, expected to hit the markets by early August.
The best part of the news is definitely that the prices are comparatively cheaper than the recently announced multi-core Core i9 line by Intel, which is definitely expected to be the biggest competitor of AMD. The cores/24 threads Threadripper 1950X is now being compared to Core i9-7960X, but strikingly costs less than Intel’s $1, 199 option. In the same way, Intel’s 16 cores/32 thread Core i9-7960X runs for $1, 699, which sums up to $700 increase on AMD’s $999 Threadripper 1950X.
Now, over here, if the comparison is in terms of sheer thread and core count, then Intel is clearly the winner, being the monster of a processor. But with the price of one Intel’s processor, two of AMD’s threadripper comes for the same price.
Lastly, AMD also announced the details of its budget Ryzen 3 chips, which are apparently about to fill the space occupied by Intel’s Core i3 chips. The Ryzen 3 1300X is mighty of the two while the Ryzen 3 1200 is a bit slow with a base speed of 3.1GHz, boosting up to 3.4Ghz. While the first two are supposed to to be available by 27th July, no further information is available on its price.
