Mobile users in India continue to enjoy their cruise, as Reliance Communications, owned by the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group has launched a lucrative scheme recently. The company, better known as RComm, has just announced a Rs. 299.00 rental scheme for consumers to enjoy unlimited data, voice calls and text messages. According to industry insiders, this move by Anil Ambani-owned RComm is aimed to take on Reliance Jio, which is owned by no one else, but is elder brother Mukesh Ambani.
As such, the Indian telecom industry is undergoing a thorough overhaul since last September, when Reliance Jio was introduced to the consumers. One may recall here, Reliance Jio offers daily 1 GB 4G data and unlimited voice calls for 84 days at Rs. 399.00. In this circumstance, the major players like Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular have to introduce lower tariff plans to retain customers.
Even RComm has reported a loss of Rs. 948 crore in a quarter of the ongoing financial year, resulting from the free calls and data offered by the Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited. In an official statement, released in the recent times, Reliance Communications made a subtle and indirect hit at Reliance Jio for disrupting the existing tariff structures in the Indian telecom sector. The statement read, “The telecom sector in India has been very adversely impacted during 2016-17 by competitive intensity on a scale never witnessed before in the country.”
However, RComm did not reveal its Rs. 299 plan in details. The announcement just included, by availing this plan, consumers will not only enjoy unlimited data and voice calls but also unlimited text messages too.

In absence of adequate clarity on relevant issues, like validity date, data FUP and others, confusion is steadily rising among the consumers. The Twitter handle had a link to purchase the plan. When some enthusiastic souls tried that link using their prepaid numbers, they are reported to come across a message that read, “The amount entered is not eligible for this offer. Please dial *129# to check the valid amount for your Reliance Mobile Number”. Thus, there is a chance, the Rs. 299 plan from Reliance Communication is meant only for its postpaid consumers.
