Vivo has officially declared that it will display a smartphone incorporated with the new fingerprint sensor technology on January 10. Vivo has taken to Twitter to tease that it will showcase the fingerprint sensor technology. The teaser image makes it clear that it is the under display fingerprint sensor technology that will be showcased by the company at the CES 2018.

Given that the full-screen design trend is going mainstream, the demand for the under glass fingerprint sensor is massive. The reason is that the rear-facing fingerprint sensors is not welcome by most users and is considered to be an inconvenient way to unlock smartphones.

The company displayed the concept phone at last year’s MWC with an under display fingerprint sensor offered by Qualcomm. Synaptics introduced the Clear ID FS9600 optical in-display fingerprint sensor technology. This specific fingerprint sensor in touted to be capable of detecting wet, cold and dry fingerprints. Also, it appears to be well protected under the durable glass and is claimed to be resistant to water and scratches as well.

It also has security features such as adaptive fingerprint template matching,  authentication, and anti-spoofing technology. The clear ID is integrated with AES encryption and ECC authentication.

According to the reports, Vivo declared that it will be the first company to disclosed a smartphone with the under glass fingerprint sensor in 2018. Also, the company disclosed that its upcoming smartphone will feature the Synaptics’ Clear ID sensor but the name of the phone was kept undercover.

Alex Feng, Senior Vice President in Vivo said, “With our efforts in extensive consumer research and long-term R&D investment, Vivo is well positioned to pioneer the development of fingerprint scanning technology. We first presented a prototype of our fingerprint scanning solution at MWC Shanghai 2017 based on an ultrasonic sensor, and have remained committed to realizing our vision for future smartphones”.

He also added, “Today’s showcase of a ready-to-produce in-display fingerprint scanning smartphone featuring an optical fingerprint sensor is a big leap forward in bringing consumers this long-awaited, futuristic mobile experience. We are very excited to make it available to consumers soon”.
