Redmi Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro is the latest mid-range smartphone from Xiaomi. It also comes with the latest mid-range hardware and MIUI. Xiaomi is shipping the smartphone with MIUI 9.2 based on Android 7.1 Nougat preinstalled. If you own Redmi Note 5 or Note 5 Pro, then here are few tips you should know.

1- Improve Notification shade

With the plethora of customization options that MIUI 9 offers, you can make the notification shade on your Redmi Note 5/Pro usable by tweaking a few settings.

Firstly, enable the option to show notification icons on the status bar from Settings -> Notifications & Status bar.

This will ensure that unread notification icons will show up on the status bar. You can also enable the Notifications folder option so that all unimportant notifications will show up separately. You can change the priority of notifications of different apps from under App notifications.

2- Dual Apps

Xiaomi includes a handy Dual Apps feature in MIUI 9 on the Redmi Note 5/Pro and that allows one to run two instances of a single app. The feature supports WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and most of the other commonly used apps. You can set up Dual Apps feature on your Redmi Note 5 or Pro from Settings -> Dual Apps.

3- Hide Notification bar

Xiaomi was smart enough to include an option to disable the navigation bar on the Redmi Note 5/Pro. With the navigation bar disabled, you will have to make use of gestures similar to what we have seen on the iPhone X to navigate around the UI.

You can hide the navigation bar on your device by heading over to Settings -> Additional Settings -> Button and gesture shortcuts. From there, enable the Hide soft buttons option.

if you want, you can hide the navigation bar in only select apps. For this, use the Automatically disable navigation buttons option.

4- Mi Remote

All budget Redmi and Mi handsets launched in India by Xiaomi over the last couple of years have included an IR blaster. The inclusion of an IR blaster means that you can use your Redmi Note 5/Pro to easily control TV, ACs, and other electronic appliances around you.

Xiaomi not only includes an IR blaster but also bundles its excellent Mi Remote app on the Redmi. The app supports a wide range of devices across a range of categories and should support most, if not all, the electronic appliances in your home or office. If you own a Redmi Note 5/Pro , definitely make sure to give the Mi Remote a try.

5- Quick Charge 2.0 Support

The Redmi Note 5 and its Pro variant come with a beefy 4000mAh battery. Despite using such a beefy battery, Xiaomi only supports Quick Charge 2.0 on them. It bundles a 2A charger with the Redmi Note 5/Pro which can take nearly 2.5 hours to charge them from 0-100 percent.

 6- Simply Navigate with quick ball

Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro comes with a Quick Ball menu. It allows you to have few of the available shortcuts at your disposal. You can place anywhere on the screen edge or any other position. All you need to do is go to Settings > Additional Settings and toggle the switch on.

7- Play with gestures

From capturing screenshots to powering the phone off in style, the Redmi Note 5/Pro lets you do all that with just a few swishes of your fingers. To enable these options, navigate over to Additional Settings > Buttons and gesture shortcuts and choose the option of your choice.

8- Do more with gallery

The Redmi Note 5/Pro come with inbuilt collage maker. In other words, this feature will let you choose the layout option and it offers a quite number of cool grid options. Just open gallery and tap the three dots menu and select Collage.

9- Erase objects from images

The inclusion of MIUI 9 in the Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro allows you to erase objects from images. It means that you get the Erase option in the image-editing tool. All you have to do is hit the Edit option. Then, select Erase and tap on the area where you would like the objects to be removed.

10- Enable intelligent sleep mode

The MIUI 9 on the Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro makes it a little bit smarter. For one, it comes with the new Intelligent Sleep Mode. This cool feature uses machine learning to predict your sleep routine and disables radios and switches such as NFC, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi accordingly. This setting can be found under Battery > Manage app’s Battery usage > Scenarios.

11- Customize reading mode

The Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro comes with a built-in Reading mode. This mode gives a monochromatic hue to your phone, protecting your eyes. To enable it, head over to Display > Reading Mode and toggle the switch on. To get the most out of this mode, schedule the timing so that you don’t have to do the same thing over and over again.

12- Fullscreen mode

The Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro comes with Fullscreen mode. To enable this go to Settings -> Additional settings -> fullscreen mode. then toggle simply toggle the buttons next to each app to enable or disable fullscreen mode for that app.

13- Better Notification Management

The Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro ships with MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat. As such, it inherits a ton of AOSP features, it allows to Quick Reply to messages from the notification itself.

14- App Vault   

Xiaomi has added Indian-oriented features to the App Vault in MIUI 9 present on the Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro. With App Vault, users will be able to access important applications like Paytm or Ola by simply swiping left from the home screen.

15- Split Screen

Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro comes with Split screen option. To use this feature simply tap on the Recent button. You will see the “Split Screen” written at the top of your screen. Tap on it and then drag the app you want to use in the split screen mode. Once you select an app, the option to select the other app will come in the bottom half of the screen.
