India surpasses the United States to become Facebook’s largest country audience with a total 241 million active users, compared to 240 million in the US.
The portal was quoting figures that the social media giant released advertisers. The report added, “Active users in India are up 27% in the past six months alone( +50 million), compared to growth of 12% ( +26 million) in the US over the same period ”.
Facebook has accomplished majestic growth in both countries since the start of 2017, but these new figures suggest that active users in India are growing more than twice as fast as they are in the United States.
Most Facebook users in India young are 53%, who are under the age 25 and 83% are under 35. the majority users are male with 76% users in India, in comparison to U.S where active users of Facebook identifying as female represent 54% of total users.
India finally appears on the list of cities with the maximum Facebook users at number 6, with New Delhi showing 15 million active monthly users. Cities in the United States do not appear in the top ten at all.
Despite, these strong gains media penetration in India remains relatively low, with just 19 percent of the country’s total population using Facebook in the past month. That compares to 73 percent penetration in the United States, and a global average of around 42 percent.
