2018 seems to be a great year for all the cricket fanatics out there. Recently, Star India has announced that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 matches would be live streamed in VR this year. They further added that it would stream Vivo IPL on Hotstar in Virtual Reality.

This further means that the matches, scheduled between April 4 and May 31, would be exclusively broadcasted by Star India in six different languages, targeting almost a reach of 700 million viewers across TV and digital formats. Here, it also portrays that the premium subscribers of the Hotstar video streaming service would be able to watch IPL 2018 matches in immersive VR experience with help of virtual reality headset. Interestingly, now the Hotstar premium viewers would also be able to select camera angles and commentary language of their choice, offering further customization through the “Super-fan feed”.

The icing on the cake is the social experience that the fans would definitely enjoy on Hotstar with the cricket emojis to enhance the viewing and sharing experience. To this, the company also regarded that, “This season, IPL will not be a two-month property but a six-month-long fiesta – starting with the retention event which was viewed by 8.1 million viewers and quickly became the most talked about topic on social media”.

With this, the Star India also announced ‘Election se Selection’ campaign for the upcoming auctions. This means that the interested cricket fans can vote for their favorite players at vivoiplelection.hotstar.com. With IPL 2018 broadcasting rights with Star India, Hotstar would get an edge over its rivals Amazon Prime Video and Netflix.

Lastly, announcing this VR availability, Sanjay Gupta, Managing Director, Star India, stated that, “Over its 10-year journey, the IPL has grown into the single biggest property by far on Indian television.
