Microsoft has hit the headlines this time with the news of the release of its Windows Defender antivirus scanner for Chrome Browser. This software giant has released a Chrome extension, that includes a list of malicious URLs that would be blocked in Chrome. The extension is also designed to stop malware being loaded onto PCs from malicious sites and to prevent phishing emails from being successful.

Now, Google already provides its own protection against malicious links within Chrome, so Microsoft’s addition does seem superfluous at times. However, for this, Microsoft does claim that its Windows Defender protection against phishing is 99 percent efficient, compared to 87 percent and 70 percent for Firefox. So, for the users particularly concerned about malicious links then this extension would be definitely beneficial for providing an extra safeguard. Also, Microsoft’s Windows Defender Chrome extension is available now from the Chrome Web Store.
