HMD Global has taken all the limelight this time at the MWC 2018 with the launch of its Nokia 8110 4G. Now, this Nokia 8110, which is a distinctive ‘candy bar’ feature phone with a slider opening, was once a phone everyone wanted to buy and was made famous by the Matrix film franchise. Now, HMD is producing this Nokia feature phone that would come with a 4G connectivity and a selected group of apps such as Google’s Assistant, Maps, and Search, as well as Facebook and Twitter. It also comes with a battery life befitting of feature phones, 17 days, with 9 days of talk time. Also, this 8110 comes in “banana yellow”, which is in lieu of the “banana” curved design and black, but right now the price for India is not available.

Juho Sarvikas, CPO of HMD Global, had described this 8110 as a “vacation” phone right at the time when people might want to switch off from being continuously connected. Also, this has found a counterpart in Silicon Valley, where there has been a big wave of thought among tech people who now believe that the continuous connectivity of smartphone life has detrimental effects. Also to this, he added that “There is a huge population of feature phone loyalists. We see a lot of potential in innovating in the feature phone space, not a simple redesign of the [older] 2G experience”.
