Qualcomm announced that its next flagship processor will be called the Snapdragon 845. According to the information, the company has confirmed the rumors that the chip is due out in 2018. The 845 is a direct successor to the last year’s very popular Snapdragon 835, and it will likely bring improved performance, better power efficiency, and improved image processing.
The Snapdragon 845 will likely to be found in many high-end Android Phones in 2018. It is also expected to make its way to Windows 10 Laptops as well. Xiaomi is first to announce a smartphone with the processor, the phone is expected to be Mi 7. while companies like LG and Samsung can be expected use the processor in their flagships next year.
The Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile for Qualcomm Technologies Alex Katouzian mentioned that Snapdragon 845 will be the successor to the Snapdragon 835 that was released at CES 2017 in January. The chip will contain the newest X20 modem that provides gigabit connectivity on supported networks. Moreover, it will be developed with Samsung Foundry.
“Xiaomi is committed to making devices that combine cutting-edge innovations in technology and beautiful design while defying price expectations, and we have chosen Snapdragon 845 to power our next flagship smartphone,” stated Lei Jun the founder and CEO of Xaomi.
LG also informed its LG G7 flagship with the new Qualcomm chip. Although the South Korean company has not disclosed any formal information.
The report also informs that Qualcomm is set to use a 7nm manufacturing process for designing the Snapdragon 845. The new chip likely retains the 10nm node that was debuted with the Snapdragon 835. Qualcomm may reduce the die size of the upcoming processor to give space to other components. Specifications and features of Snapdragon 845 are expected to be declared on Wednesday. But the devices with the new chip are not likely to be disclosed until January 2018.
