Yes, finally it’s there. The Xiaomi Redmi 5, which was originally launched in China, marked its debut in India today. With a starting price of ₹7,999 for the base model, this latest device by smartphone, in all probability would counter the likes of the Moto G5s in the affordable, feature-rich segment.

Also, being referred to as ‘Compact Powerhouse’ by Xiaomi, while promoting on the Social Media, this Redmi 5 boasts of big display, long battery life, fast processor, slim design, and good selfie camera as the primary features. Also, Xiaomi hosted an online launch event at 3 pm where all the details related to price, specifications, and first sale date of the smartphone got revealed. It has already been confirmed that the Redmi 5 would be available via Amazon India, while the availability at and Mi Home, at the time of launch, might be also possible.

Like the Mi TV 4A event was hosted a week back, Redmi 5 India launch was also an online-only event. Xiaomi made the live stream slated to start at 3 pm, available for everyone to see via its official website. Talking of the camera, the Redmi 5 comes with a 12-megapixel rear sensor that has features like f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and LED flash. On the front is a 5-megapixel selfie camera with a “soft-light” flash module. The front camera also has Xiaomi’s proprietary Beautify 3.0 capabilities. There is a 3300mAh battery under the hood. Dimensions include 151.8×72.8×7.7mm, weighing around 157 grams.
