Reliance Jio Infocomm has added a new achievement to its name. This states of reaching a customer base of 73 lakhs for the month of October, taking its market share past 12% while the other telcos, listing Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, and Idea Cellular have registered comparatively much fewer customer gains of 31.4, 8.7 and 7.1 lakhs, respectively, as per the recent reports published by TRAI.
This is quite a remarkable win for newcomer Jio with its consistent steady climb in terms of market sharing, increasing the scores to 12.39%, from 11.72% in September, 11.19% in August and 10.83% in July, as per the reports published by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) released on Tuesday.
So, even if Bharti Airtel continues to top the list as India’s biggest phone company with 2851.9 lakh customers, Mukesh Ambani led Jio’s customer base had grown to nearly 1460 lakh at the end of October. Vodafone India and Idea’s customer occupy the customer base of 2083.2 and 1908.6 lakhs respectively.
Further reports by TRAI states BSNL, which has been adding subscribers continuously even after the entry of Reliance Jio since last year, has now reached a user base of 1064.1 million at the end of October, with a 9.03 percent market share. Also, Telenor and Tata Teleservices would be merged with Airtel. Also, Reliance Communications would be closing its 2G and 3G services. So now things would turn tougher for Aircel, as it has been losing users every month.
With such consolidations in the telecom industry accelerating over the past two years, this sector is now heading towards a three-player hierarchic structure, with Bharti Airtel, Vodafone-Idea Cellular, and Reliance Jio controlling 95 percent of the revenues.
