2017 seemed to be quite a fruitful year for the telecom industry, with the launch of quite a few smartphones and feature phones. This was particularly in lieu to the launch of the Jio 4G feature phone by Reliance Jio, priced at ₹1,500 and which is India’s first 4G VoLTE feature phone. Following the trend, the other telcos like Airtel, Vodafone, BSNL and Idea Cellular have also joined in the race, claiming for the supremacy in the market after Jio.

Jio 4G feature phone:

Even if being a budget-oriented phone, this one supports Wi-fi to everybody’s amazement. With this, it boasts of an inbuilt mechanism for Youtube, coupled with embedded radio and mind-blowing speakers. Jio music and Jio Cinema are obviously present but the surprise element is the availability if the Facebook. Right now, WhatsApp is not inbuilt but the front and back camera would definitely make up for it. Priced at ₹1,500, the users accustomed to 2G connectivity would definitely love this 4G feature. The delivery of the phones to the users has already commenced from 21st September.

Airtel, twinning with Karbonn Mobiles, launches Karbonn A40 Indian:

Airtel has decided for following the trend now and has partnered 4G device manufacturers in India for its ‘Mera Pehla 4G Smartphone’. This has led to the partnership with Karbonn A40 Mobiles, leading to the launch of Karbonn A40 Indian, which is supposed to be available now at an effective price of ₹1,399. Talking of benefits this Android-based 4G smartphone will offer a full touchscreen experience, dual SIM slots and access to popular apps like YouTube, WhatsApp, and Facebook, with 2MP Back and 0.3MP front camera. Also, it would be bundled with a monthly benefit recharge pack and cashback benefits.

Vodafone collaborates with Micromax, launches ‘Bharat 2 Ultra’:

The next name in the list is Vodafone. Vodafone collaborates with Micromax, leading to the launch of ‘Bharat 2 Ultra’ phone at an ‘effective price’ of ₹999. This Micromax Bharat 2 Ultra is officially priced at ₹2,999 but with a Vodafone, scheme customers can acquire the phone for ₹999. Talking of features, the Bharat-2 Ultra will be featuring a 4-inch WVGA display and will be powered by quad-core Spreadtrum SC9832 processor, coupled with 512MB RAM and 4GB of internal storage. The handset also states a 2-megapixel rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel front camera.

BSNL ties up With Vodafone to launch feature phone at ₹2000:

Again, Vodafone and BSNL are trying to merge with mobile creators to extend profit-making voice and data offers with feature phones. The change mainly focuses to retain old 2G subscriber base. The state-owned BSNL is joining up Lava and Micromax and planning to launch co-branded feature phone and the price of this feature phone will be of similar range.

Idea Cellular and Vodafone team up for the launch of the cheapest smartphone:

Idea Cellular now launches an ‘affordable phone’, teaming up with Vodafone, priced at ₹2,500. This phone would apparently permit the consumers to make a choice for dual SIM, selection of 2G and 4G networks, signing up with telecom operators and to use applications of choice. With this, there would be extensive market research on the number of features that can be brought down, operating system and whether it should have a touchscreen, among others.
