Samsung has hit the headlines this time with the announcement of the launch of its latest Galaxy A models i.e. the A8 and A8 Plus. This launch is a global one, where the sales of this phones have already commenced in South Korea i.e. the company’s home ground. But soon, it is expected that the company would launch these to the other markets as well, and including India as both this new A8 and the A8+ are important phones for Samsung. Basically, these are the ones on the basis of which the company hopes to take on the likes of the Nokia 8 and the OnePlus 5T in the high-end segment.

Even if the dates are yet not fixed, the Galaxy A8 and the Galaxy A8+(2018) would go on sale from January next year. With this, the prices would also be announced once they are put on sale. In all probability, Samsung would showcase the A8 and A8+ in the first half of January in Las Vegas.

Specs and features:

These are the first from the A series phones by Samsung to have been arrived with dual front cameras, coupled with Live Focus feature, which would allow users to easily adjust the bokeh effect before or after they click a picture. Of course, this is a good news for the selfie lovers as the camera system now not only allows to click selfies with blurred backgrounds but also to experiment with the front camera photography. Another striking feature to look out for is their Infinity Display, a feature borrowed from the high-end Galaxy S8 and Note 8 launched in 2017.

To this, Junho Park, a Samsung vice president regarded that, “With the release of the Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018), we’re bringing our customers’ favorite features from our flagship smartphones, such as the Infinity Display and our first Dual Front Camera with Live Focus, to our Galaxy A series, which is already known for its premium design”.

To be launched in four colors, Black, Orchid Grey, Gold and Blue, as far as the specifications are concerned, the two smartphones don’t differ much. But, the Galaxy A8 is a little smaller in size when compared to its Plus variant. The A8 comes with a 5.6-inchFHD+ Super AMOLED display with 1080×2220 pixel resolution, while the A8+ is a little bigger and comes with 6.0-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with the same resolution. However, the Infinity Display on both the smartphones comes with an immersive 18.5:9 display ratio. To this Samsung regarded that, “The large screen is supported with ergonomic curved glass on the back and front”.

As previously discussed, both the phones have the similar camera set up, with a 16MP + 8MP F1.9 dual front cameras. The front cameras, according to Samsung, would help consumers click better photos in low light as well as allow them to add stickers to the selfies. The phones also come with video digital image stabilization (VDis) technology which is paired with an added hyper-lapse feature, allowing users to create time-lapse videos.

Talking about the hardware and software, both the smartphones don’t differ much. Both the Galaxy A8 and A8+ are powered by Octa-Core (2.2GHz Dual + 1.6GHz Hexa) processor. On the storage front, both the A8 and A8+ comes in two variant i.e. the 32GB and 64GB which is coupled with 4GB RAM each. With an expandable storage up to 256GB via a microSD card, the Galaxy A8 is backed by a 3,000mAh battery, while the Plus variant packs a 3,500mAh battery. Both the Galaxy A8 and A8+ comes with Android 7.1.1, fast Charging and USB Type-C support.

Lastly, Galaxy A8 and A8+ include IP68 water and dust resistance, which means that the two smartphones are capable of surviving rain, sand, and dust. Also, these smartphones come with an Always On Display so that users would be able to receive information at a glance without even unlocking their phones.

It seems that Samsung has decided to overhaul its A series phones to take on the dynamic competition and that the A8 and the A8+ are first in the series to come under this new strategy.
