The order of the day is irony. The reason being the recent declaration of Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, where he states that the biggest risk we face as a civilization is AI. Now the irony part arrives here as he’s completely aware of its utilities as well as how much he needs it. Yet, he’s scared of its impact on the days to come.

These were the words reflected in his speech at the meeting of National Governors Association where he stated that “I have access to the very most cutting edge AI, and I think people should be really concerned about it”.

This was quite a shocking as well as a strange declaration by someone who has always supported the libertarian bent. But this time, the ultimate solution according to him was Proactive Regulation.

The reason he produced for this was that since AI is quite a rare case so it should be proactive instead of reactive.

Why is AI considered as a threat?

To this Musk replied that AI is as much as a fundamental risk just the way common causes of accidents and airplane crashes occur, or just like the effect created by faulty drugs, or bad food.

He went a step further, explaining that AI can be a source of a war by faking news and spoofing email accounts and fake press releases, just by hoaxing information.

Many other bigwigs including Stephen Hawking has already warned about the negative impacts, regarding it as a major threat.

This latest appeal by Musk was quite an amusing one, where he presented the commercial realities and stated that “You kind of need the regulators to do that for all the teams in the game. Otherwise, the shareholders will be saying, why aren’t you developing AI faster? Because your competitor is”. Regulators should be equipped with the essential powers to obstruct certain AI developments, in order to check and confirm the perfect safety.

Lastly, Money doesn’t care about humanity, until it’s’ too late, that is. Also, this clear and strong warning by Musk clearly states that the future days are really going to be tough.
