Finally, the circle has been completed. Vodafone is the last name to join in the trend of launching smartphones after Jio, Airtel and BSNL. Vodafone, in collaboration with Micromax, has launched the ‘Bharat 2 Ultra’ phone at an ‘effective price’ of ₹999. This Micromax Bharat 2 Ultra is officially priced at ₹2,999 but with a Vodafone, scheme customers can acquire the phone for ₹999.

This leading native brand, like all of its contemporaries, has faced immense competition from Chinese brands, occupying the top 5 spots in the telecom sector. So the launch of this Bharat 2 Ultra, commencing from the next month,getting calling and data plan from Vodafone, is basically meant to add to volume sales and also joining in the competition with the new entrant Reliance Jio and even market hotshot Bharti Airtel, who have recently roped in with Karbonn Mobiles, giving away 4G smartphones at an effective price of ₹1,399, for gaining subscribers.

Initially, customers have to buy the smartphone for ₹2,899 and recharge with their new or existing Vodafone numbers with a minimum denomination of Rs 150 every month for three years. The buyer will also get a cashback of Rs 900 at the end of 18 months and a cash back or Rs 1,000 after the next 18 months in Vodafone “M-Pesa” wallet, thereby making the effective price of the handset Rs 999.

To this, Rahul Sharma, co-founder, Micromax, regarded that, “This partnership with Vodafone will bring in the next phase of smartphone adoption by helping consumers to upgrade from feature phones to smartphones. We want to give superior device experience in an affordable way and ‘Bharat’ range is a testimony of the same, having already sold more than two million handsets”.

Features and Specifications:

The Bharat-2 Ultra will be featuring a 4-inch WVGA display and will be powered by quad-core Spreadtrum SC9832 processor clocked at 1.3GHz coupled with 512MB RAM. There’s 4GB of internal storage. Talking of the camera, this handset will be sporting a 2-megapixel rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel front camera. Also, the device comes with camera modes like scene detection, frame mode, and burst shots. The handset runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and packs a 1300mAh battery. This phone is supposed to hit the stores and the Vodafone stores, from the first week of November.

Lastly, on this latest collaboration and the launch of the phone, Avneesh Khosla, Associate Director Consumer Business, Vodafone India, commented that “We are delighted to partner with Micromax to democratize the 4G smartphones at a never before price of under Rs. 999. This will help fulfill the aspirations of several million phone users across the country who desire a smartphone but couldn’t afford one.
