WhatsApp is in the news again. The Facebook-owned messaging app is right now testing a new ‘Group Description’ feature on the Android beta and Windows version of this app. This feature is live in the latest version of the WhatsApp Android beta and Windows beta app. So, the WhatsApp Android beta version 2.18.57 and version 2.18.28 are listing this new option. Users might as well join the beta program on Google Play Store for WhatsApp, and then the latest features in testing would be available for them.
More on the feature:
For enabling this Group Description feature, a user simply needs to tap on the Group name and below the group picture, after which a new option for adding Group description would appear. While users would be able to add the group description, which would be again reflected, other members of the Group who did not have the feature yet would not be able to see the description.
So, after this, when a group description is added, a message pops up in the Group, stating that the particular member has added a description. When that description gets removed, another blue notification appears in the group that it has been removed. Non-Group admins can also add a group description. Once again though, the description only shows to others when the feature is active on their phones. However, right now it is found on the iOS phones.
To be clear, WhatsApp’s Group Description feature is still in the beta-testing stage, so not all users might see it reflected. It is also not known when this would be made available to iOS users.
