WhatsApp is here again with something new this time. It has officially launched its ‘Change Number’ feature on the latest beta version of its Android app. This states of users easily notifying their close contacts and friends that they have migrated to another number on WhatsApp. Also, this feature would be soon enabled for iOS, Android and Windows users, where they migrate their data to a new completely new number without much hassle. Further, this new “Change Number” feature update is currently available in the 2.18.97 Android beta update on Google Play Store. Thus, the user can now choose if he wants to also notify some or all contacts.

A recent tweet by WABetaInfo, a fan website that tracks upcoming WhatsApp features, also added that “It adds many improvements to the old change number feature. You will be able to choose specific contacts to notify, and the chat history will be moved in the new chat on the recipients’ phone. This deletes the problem of duplicated chats. You can also choose to notify contacts who you have a chat with”.

For this, the users need to go to WhatsApp Settings > Account > Change number. Then after entering the user’s your old and new phone numbers, they need to enable ‘Notify My Contacts,’ and choose between the aforementioned options. Then, all the chat groups would be notified regardless of what the users choose.

Here, WABetaInfo added that after the migration, in the recipient’s phone, all shared messages in the old chat would be then transferred in the new one and in the chat, a bubble would appear, indicating that the user has a new number now.

So, basically, this is an extension of the original Change Number feature that allows users to migrate their account information and settings from one number to another without losing any chat history.

WhatsApp always automatically notifies current chat groups about number migration so that users don’t have to join them again. Also, this new add-on provides more control to the user.

The latest report also states that WhatsApp now has 1.5 billion monthly active users (MAU) who are exchanging nearly 60 billion messages on a single day. It has over 200 million users in India.
