Xiaomi has improved its camera game off late phones like the Mi A1, Redmi Note 5 and Mi Mix 2S are examples of the kind of improvements the company has made over the past few years. The company is now planning to create an in-house camera department that will solely focus on improving image quality, as per an internal mail sent by Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun.
The internal mail which got disclosed, Jun expresses that photography is one of the most important features in modern smartphones and that there is a need to improve the technology further to take Xiaomi to the top. An in-house department would definitely help the company focus and invest more on R&D to improve the camera quality on its future phones.
The main intention is to enhance the image quality for the upcoming smartphones. There are reports that Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 will ship with camera sensors manufactured internally by the production team of the company. If one looks at the Redmi Note 5 Pro or Mi A1, the devices ships with improved camera sensors.
In future, the company would mainly aim at the photography department on all smartphones expected to hit the retail shelves by the end of 2018. the company requires improving the technology to combat the intense competition.
If the company manages to establish an in-house sector, then it will only aim at the photography, enhancement of sensors and addition of new features. However, it will take days for the company to create the new sector.
The forthcoming Xiaomi Mi 7 will ship with various features specific to the camera. The Mi 7 will sport a dual rear camera setup with a pair of 16-megapixel sensors with f/1.7 aperture and 4-axis OIS. The secondary camera is also expected to support 2x optical zoom.
